Bringing JLWOP Abolition to the Deep South
Of the 22 states that retain juvenile life without parole (JLWOP), eight of them are in the deep south (Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida). In many of these states, legislation abolishing JLWOP has either not been introduced or has not received a committee hearing. This session will explore potential strategies for bringing reforms to the south that have proven so successful in other regions.
