We are incredibly excited to mark the 10th anniversary of the Incarcerated Children’s Advocacy Network (ICAN) this year. ICAN founders and current leaders will share the history of this incredible national network with a spotlight on how ICAN members are leading the work to end life without parole for children and encourage healing in their communities.
Advancing Strategic Narrative in a Challenging Environment
Advancing and changing the narrative is often a vital component of social justice work. Narrative change is the process of constructing and promoting narratives that challenge existing ones to drive social change. It is the effort to tell a better story, move hearts and minds, and drive lasting policy and culture change. Building and promoting new narratives about an issue can challenge dominant paradigms, reframe existing understandings of social problems, and offer new solutions—and can inspire people to take action that is responsive to those new understandings and solutions. In this session we will explore ways to strategically advance narrative in a challenging political landscape.
